Walking with Him/Ep7

This post is part of an extended 7 part Lenten series, involving meditations on the Stations of the Cross, as we walk towards Calvary with Jesus, step-by-step.

Death was Arrested by North Point Worship

Alone in my sorrow and dead in my sin Lost without hope with no place to begin Your love Made a way to let mercy come in When death was arrested and my life began

Ash was redeemed only beauty remains My orphan heart was given a name My mourning grew quiet my feet rose to dance When death was arrested and my life began

Oh, Your grace so free Washes over me You have made me new Now life begins with You It's your endless love Pouring down on us You have made us new Now life begins with You

This Easter Day, this was the worship song that spoke to me. In a matter of 3 days, He has risen from the dead and I think it’s a message we all need to hear right now. Plunged into the uncertainty wrought by the COVID-19 crisis, many of us have fallen prey to anxiety and despair. Some of us may have been traversing personal deserts while others may have felt that life has spun out of control. The absence and emptiness we felt on Palm Sunday and Good Friday was more acute as we could not process into the main church, we could not venerate our crosses. The church was stripped bare and only the altar remains. Yet, out of every situation, comes goodness, for He makes all things good. The good I perceive from this difficult time has been to direct our gaze back towards Him. To meditate more meaningfully on His death and sacrifice. We have been in mourning for far too long, entombed by our anxieties and worries. We have lived in fear in the darkness of our own personal tombs. Yet, His love on the cross made it possible for mercy to enter into our lives and to live a life of freedom, a life filled with His grace. The stone was rolled away from the entrance of the tomb, to symbolise also our walking from the darkness of sin to the newness of life. There is a meaning to the darkness we may feel we are plunged into, it is preparing us for a life with Him. He arrested death, stopped death in its tracks and conquered sin, what do we have to fear? His love pours down on us endlessly, this Easter Day and He wishes to resurrect us too, from our graves. Cast away the chains of your old self and resolve to live a life, renewed in Christ alone.
